X Ray Vision game - You need a cup (not a clear one) and 10 small items that will fit in the cup.  You take out some objects from the cup.  After counting the items, your child should be able to tell you how many are left in the cup.

Introduction to Place Value through Addition and Subtraction within 20

In this Module, we are again focusing on representing and solving problems using addition and subtraction but this time with larger numbers to 20.  We will also begin to work on understanding place value.

IXL is a great place for some additional practice.  To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:

You can click on the grade level math module and then scroll down the page for the individual math lesson. Helpful videos are also located on this sight at the Parent and Family Resource tab, located on the upper right hand corner of the website.

Math Terminology for Module 4

New and Recently Introduced Terms

  • > (greater than)
  • < (less than)
  • Place value (quantity represented by a digit in a particular place within a number)

Module 4

  • Count objects such as jellybeans in a bowl, pennies in a jar, cheerios in a baggie, etc.
  • Find numbers in newspapers, magazines, or on items around the house.
  • Practice counting with your student while doing various activities-driving in the car, jumping rope, waiting in line at a store, etc.
  • Divide a deck of cards evenly between players. Each player flips over a card, the player with the highest card wins the cards. Continue until one player has all cards in the deck.
  • Put different items into groups and talk about which group has more or less items using the terms greater than and less than.
  • Roll dice and create numbers. Say what is 10 more or 10 less than that number.
